COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR

The Amara Legal Center is a nonprofit legal services organization dedicated to providing free legal services to individuals whose rights have been violated while involved in commercial sex. Amara has an opening for a part-time. Communications Coordinator/Specialist. This position reports to the Director of Operations. To learn more about Amara’s mission and work, please visit www.amaralegal.org.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising

  • Monitor Network for Good and PayPal accounts for donations
  • Write and send timely acknowledgements to donors and supporters
  • Maintain accurate donation databases
  • Write and send email blasts to donors, including a quarterly newsletter
  • Research potential funding opportunities
  • Maintain grants calendar and spreadsheet to track applications
  • Update grants dashboard to reflect new awards
  • Correspond with funders regarding potential funding

Outreach

  • Maintain Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram accounts
  • Review news for relevant stories
  • Draft and post content
  • Assist in determining schedule for outreach to donors/sponsors
  • Coordinate with events as needed
  • Manage design of marketing materials

Writing/editing

  • Write grant proposals and submit according to schedule
  • Draft content for newsletters and donor communications
  • Edit range of materials, including reports, press releases, web content, testimony
  • Create web content for giving and event campaigns
  • Produce other materials as needed
    Qualifications and skills:
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, legal studies, or a related field
  • At least two years of professional experience, ideally in a nonprofit and/or legal setting
  • Proficiency with G Suite and Microsoft Word; experience with donor management systems and/or email marketing tools a plus

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, legal studies, or a related field
  • At least two years of professional experience, ideally in a nonprofit and/or legal setting
  • Proficiency with G Suite and Microsoft Word; experience with donor management systems and/or email marketing tools a plus
  • Eagerness and ability to get up to speed quickly, solve problems independently, and juggle multiple assignments on a deadline
  • Motivation to develop relationships and work collaboratively with staff across the organization
  • Demonstrated experience, knowledge, or interest in working with underserved communities and survivors of trauma
  • Able to work a consistent schedule of 20 hours per week

Time:

  • 20 hours per week, occasional additional hours required including 2 – 4 evenings per year
    for special events.
