Kyla Woods, a graduate of the University of the District of Columbia, where she received her B.A. in Political Science in May 2021. However, Kyla began her civic engagement journey in 2016 as a youth advocate with a nonprofit dedicated to serving human−trafficking victims in DC. Realizing the impact of stigma on receiving mental health services within communities of color, she later joined the D.C. Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) and conducted community-based de-stigmatization forums to identify barriers to mental health services. In 2019, Kyla became a Youth Homelessness Demonstration Project (YHDP) Fellow, leading the coordination of youth housing support services in Washington, DC for two years. After graduation, Kyla has remained committed to public policy reform and advocacy and is determined to empower survivors at Amara Legal Center!
