Letter of Support: Trafficking Survivors Relief Act of 2016

 In Blog
On September 28, 2016, Senators Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Rob Portman (R-OH), and Congresswomen Ann Wagner (R-MO) and Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI), introduced new bipartisan legislation, the Trafficking Survivors Relief Act of 2016, which enables human trafficking victims to vacate and expunge non-violent federal and District of Columbia criminal convictions for those crimes that were committed as a direct result of the individual being a victim of trafficking.
Because this bill includes local District of Columbia convictions, it will directly and positively impact Amara’s client population if passed. It is vital that this bill receives a wide range of support from DC nonprofit organizations and residents. Please click here to read the letter of support and sign on. There are separate links for DC based organizations and for DC residents. Thank you for your support!
